This page contains recommendations specific to students, faculty, and teaching and administrative staff at the Faculty of Medicine.* It will be updated regularly.
*including learners (undergraduate and graduate students, resident physicians, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral fellows), administrative staff, faculty, teaching staff, researchers, research professionals, and health professionals.
We invite all members of our community to exercise the greatest caution and to respect the directives transmitted. The situation changes very quickly, it is therefore important to regularly consult the official messages from Université Laval sent by email and available on monPortail and to consult the official page:
If specific messages need to be transmitted to students and residents, they will be sent by program directors.
Given the COVID-19 outbreak and the greater exposure of members of our community, many of whom work in the healthcare network, we recommend that you refrain from traveling outside Canada and limit trips within Canada to a strict minimum. It is our duty to try to remain healthy and prevent the spread of this disease to reduce the pressure on our healthcare system and protect our patients and learners.
We have also decided to postpone planned Faculty gatherings and events in the Ferdinand-Vandry Building and certain external activities over the coming weeks. We intend to hold meetings by phone, videoconferencing, or other means of communication other than face-to-face, in accordance with university management rules. More precise instructions on this subject will be issued over the next few days. We also ask members of the Faculty of Medicine working outside the Ferdinand-Vandry Building to limit their attendance at gatherings and events.
Please note that no learner should be involved in caring for patients under investigation or with probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the exception of resident physicians, whose contact must be limited to essential interventions, as stipulated in the recent MSSS directive.
We are very aware of the inconvenience and disappointment that these restrictions will cause, given that our members, including Faculty staff, have been working hard for a long time to plan the trips and events that are being postponed or cancelled, but we feel it is our duty as a socially accountable faculty of medicine to do everything possible to help mitigate the coronavirus pandemic, promote the common good, and protect the health of all.
The Faculty of Medicine is in close contact with Université Laval’s management, MSSS, directors of medical education of health institutions, and other medical faculties in Québec. The situation is changing daily and we will keep you informed of any further developments.
We ask you to regularly check this Faculty information page and the websites listed below:
Members of the Faculty community can send their questions to:
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We would like to underline the crucial role you play in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. By working together, we can limit its impact and ensure the long-term health of all Quebecers.
