Neuroscience and Mental Health
Research in neuroscience and mental health represents an area of excellence in many of our research centers. The Université Laval Neuroscience and Mental Health Interdisciplinary Group is an important hub for all the University’s researchers in the field. It enhances interactions and interdisciplinary.
Research areas include:
- Genetics of major neuropsychiatric diseases
- Cellular neurobiology
- Systemic neurobiology
- Neurophotonics
- Evaluative and clinical research
- Lesions and traumatic injuries of the brain and spinal cord
- Regeneration and reorganization of the nervous system
- Mental health
- Development of biotherapy, and of methods of clinical assessment and intervention in neuromodulation
Clinical research includes a neurosurgical component, with the following scientific objectives:
- Understanding the processes and genes underlying normal functioning of the central and peripheral nervous system
- Studying the perturbations occurring in pathological processes
- Discovering new methods of screening, diagnosing and treating neurological and psychiatric disorders
