Infectiology and Immunology

The important infectiology/immunology sector combines fundamental and clinical research. Its researchers explore the mechanisms underlying the onset and development of microbial infections and immune responses. The expertise of Université Laval researchers in this field is acknowledged throughout Canada and abroad. Moreover, one of our centers is host to the new National network on influenza virus evolution and antiviral susceptibility.

Examples of Research

  • Prevention methods, such as vaccines against the flu, HIV and hepatitis C
  • Development of microbicides to prevent infection by HIV and other
  • Development of rapid molecular tests for the identification of microbes and their resistance genes
  • Cellular and molecular mechanisms of the inflammatory response involved in host defence and in the pathophysiology of rheumatic, allergic and infectious diseases
  • Signalling mechanisms used by leukocytes, endothelial cells and platelets
  • Role of bioactive lipids and peptides, nucleosides, cytokines and adhesion molecules in the regulation of the inflammatory response
  • Neuroimmunological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis
