Cardiovascular and Respiratory Health, and Metabolism
Metabolism, and cardiovascular and respiratory health have been important research themes for the Faculty for many years. Recognized research teams have indeed developed research projects in cardiology, pulmonology, and obesity/metabolism.
Examples of Research
Fundamentalists and clinicians specialized in cardiovascular health work in close collaboration to study:
- Cardiac electrophysiology and the treatment of arrhythmia
- Coronary disease (pathophysiology as well as diagnostic and therapeutic approaches)
- Preventive cardiology (primary and secondary prevention, risk factors and rehabilitation)
- Assessment and treatment of valvular heart diseases
Researchers in nephrology are conducting innovative projects on the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension and the vascular and renal damage associated with chronic renal failure.
Research programs in respiratory health focus on sleep-related breathing disorders, asthma, the effects of environment on respiratory health, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Obesity research focuses on the themes of body weight regulation, energy use, etiology, complications of obesity, as well as on interactions between nutrition, physical activity and obesity. Fundamental and clinical aspects of lipid disorders are other areas of particular interest.
